noHuman Team 4.4: choose how long an approval lasts, up to 30 days
In noHuman Team 4.4 you set how long an approval lasts on its card: the noHuman's suggestion, 1 day to 30 days, or a date, with a line that says when it ends.

In noHuman Team 4.4, you decide how long each approval lasts. The approval card preselects the noHuman's suggested length and offers 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 30 days or a date up to 30 days ahead. A line under the choice says when the approval ends, and Approve records that choice.
Status: new in noHuman Team 4.4. The Mac installers are out today, and the Windows installer follows. Details are in the 4.4.0 release notes.
Approvals with a scope and an end date arrived in 4.2.0. The post on approvals and Forbidden actions explains what an approval records and which decisions come to you even when a teammate started the work. Until 4.4, the noHuman picked the length when it asked, and your card showed that length as a fixed line you could accept or decline.
How long does an approval last in noHuman Team 4.4?
An approval lasts as long as you choose on its card, anywhere from 1 hour to 30 days. In Needs you, and on the card that appears in the chat, the "What Approve records" table ends with a Valid for menu. The menu starts on the noHuman's proposal, and you can change it before you press Approve.
The menu lists, in this order:
- the noHuman's proposal, marked "(suggested)";
- 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks and 30 days;
- "Until a date…", which opens a date picker from tomorrow to 30 days ahead. The approval then runs to the end of the day you pick.
Under the menu, a line gives the end in your computer's time, for example "Ends Sun, Nov 1 at 11:59 PM." The line keeps up while the card stays open. If the noHuman's proposal matches a preset, that preset carries the "(suggested)" label. If the noHuman proposes nothing, the menu opens on "3 days (suggested)".
Only the noHuman can propose a length under a day. It can propose 12 hours, for example, and the menu then opens on "12 hours (suggested)". Your presets start at 1 day. At the other end, 30 days is the cap. If the day you pick ends more than 30 days from now, the app shortens the approval to 30 days and the line adds "An approval lasts 30 days at most."
Why did my noHuman say approvals always last three days?
Before 4.4, the noHuman set the length, and 3 days was the default when it named none. On 25 October, one of my noHumans asked me to approve a week of scheduled posts. It asked with the 3-day default and told me approvals have a fixed three-day life, so I approved that one week of posts twice.
In 4.4 you set the length on the card, and I changed the instruction each noHuman reads before it asks: propose a length that covers the whole job, and never tell you that an approval cannot last longer or that its length is fixed. If an approval will run out before the work ends, the noHuman should ask for a new one in good time and say what it covers.
How do I approve a week of scheduled posts in one go?
Approve once, with the approval ending on the last day of posting. I wrote this case into the 4.4 instructions, so the noHuman proposes that day and the card opens on it. You can still pick a shorter length if you want to review the first posts before you trust the rest of the week.
Say your marketer has posts queued from Monday, October 26 to Sunday, November 1. Publishing under your name is a decision only you make, so it asks you. Your card shows:
- Action: Publish, plus the product or the place the posts go, if the noHuman named them;
- Valid for: "Until Sun, Nov 1 (suggested)";
- under it: "Ends Sun, Nov 1 at 11:59 PM."
You press Approve once. Before each post, the noHuman checks that the approval is still active and cites its id in reports instead of quoting you. Pick 3 days instead and the approval ends partway through the week, so the noHuman has to ask you again before it posts the rest.

Can I end an approval early?
Yes. Open Needs you → All requests → Approvals you granted and press Revoke next to the approval. Revoke has been there since 4.2.0, and your noHumans can no longer rely on the approval from that moment. The team has to be running: a stopped team keeps its approvals, and the list asks you to start the team first.
On the phone, Attention shows the same Approvals you granted list, with a Revoke button on each one.
What if I approve on my computer and my phone at the same moment?
You get one approval, and it stays. Before 4.4, a second Approve sent a moment after the first could withdraw the approval the noHuman had confirmed. In 4.4 the computer takes the two answers one at a time and keeps the approval the first one recorded.
If the app cannot record an approval at all, it now shows the computer's own reason. One you may see: "Your approval could not be recorded, so it was not sent. Make sure the team is running, then try again." The app holds your answer back in that case, and you can send it again once the team is running.
Does the phone offer the same choice?
Yes, when the computer runs 4.4. The request card in the mobile companion says "You can change how long it lasts when you answer." Answer opens the same menu with the same presets, "Until a date..." opens the phone's date picker, and the "Ends ..." line sits under the menu.
A phone paired with a computer still on 4.3 shows that computer's fixed Valid for row and sends no length, because the older computer would ignore it. The iOS and Android builds of the companion are prepared for store release, with no public download yet. The mobile guide covers answering requests from the phone.
Quick answers
Does a longer approval let a noHuman do more?
No. The length decides when the approval ends and nothing else. The scope stays what the card listed: the action, and the product, place or version where the noHuman named one.
Does the approval end at exactly 11:59 PM?
Within the hour. The app counts whole hours from the moment you press Approve, so the recorded end can fall up to an hour after the time on the card. Your noHuman sees the recorded end, and its instructions say not to present those extra minutes as your choice.
Which noHumans can act on my approval?
The noHuman that asked and the noHumans who report to it. A leader above that noHuman can see the approval but cannot act on it.
Where do I find the card on my computer?
In Needs you, and on the card that appears in the conversation with the noHuman that asked. The dashboard guide describes Needs you and its request list.
The 4.4 roundup lists the other changes since 4.0. Two more 4.4 posts go deeper: token use per task and charts, diagrams and forms in chat replies.
