noHuman Team 4.3 and 4.4: approvals, Forbidden and who decides

Payments, publishing and your accounts stay your call. Approvals carry a scope and an end you choose in 4.4, and Forbidden blocks actions in all autonomy modes.

In noHuman Team, questions about money, publishing and your accounts come to you, even when a teammate started the work. Approve records a narrow scope with an end date, and you can revoke it. Forbidden blocks the actions you pick in all five autonomy modes, and leaders decide about paused messages between their teammates.

Status: live since 4.2.0 (Founder-only questions, approvals) and 4.3.0 (Forbidden, lead proposals, leader decisions) on Mac and Windows. New in noHuman Team 4.4, out for Mac first: you choose how long each approval lasts.

Install noHuman Team 4.4, read the 4.4.0 release notes, or see everything new in 4.4.

I run a team of 14 noHumans that produce construction videos and post them on seven platforms, from YouTube and TikTok to Threads and X. A Social Publishing Director leads the seven publishers. AI content production at scale shows where review steps sit in a content pipeline.

Which decisions always come to me?

Six kinds of question reach you, whoever started the work: passwords, keys or codes; your own accounts; payments; publishing or submitting under your name; deleting data; and agreements. Their cards say "Only you can decide this." Since 4.3.0 the list also covers posting to your social accounts and signing in to brand accounts.

On 18 October one of my noHumans asked whether it could use my keychain. A teammate had handed it that piece of work, so the question went to the teammate, and the teammate said yes. Since 4.2.0, released the next day, the app reads the wording of each question and sends these to you. It errs toward you: a false match costs you one extra card.

That covers the questions a noHuman asks. Asking before a post is part of each noHuman's instructions, and the app cannot tell a click on a site's Post button from any other click, so a hard stop needs Forbidden.

What does Approve record, and when does it end?

Approve records the action, narrowed to a product, a place and a version when the noHuman names them, plus an end. With no proposed length the approval lasts 3 days, and the longest is 30 days. Since 4.2.2 the card shows it as a short table:

What Approve recordsExample: a week of YouTube posts
ActionPublish
ProductConstruction clips
WhereYouTube
Valid for7 days, unless you revoke it

Your Approve is the one way to create this record: the team's gateway refuses a noHuman that tries to write or revoke one. Each noHuman's instructions tell it to check the record before a gated action and to cite the approval's id in reports instead of quoting you. An approval covers the noHuman you gave it to and everyone who reports to it, so one approval for my Social Publishing Director would cover its seven publishers.

On 25 October a noHuman asked me to approve a week of posts at the 3-day default and told me approvals have a fixed three-day life. I approved the same week twice. In noHuman Team 4.4 you pick the length on the card: the noHuman's suggestion, 1 day to 30 days, or a date up to 30 days ahead, with a line showing when the approval ends. noHumans now propose a length that covers the whole job, such as the last day of a week of scheduled posts. Choose how long an approval lasts walks through the card.

Can I take an approval back?

Yes. Open Needs you → All requests and find Approvals you granted. Each active approval has Revoke, and the app confirms that your noHumans can no longer rely on it. Revoking needs the team running; the app keeps your approvals while the team is stopped. Show expired and revoked brings back old ones, each with your answer and its approval ID.

Can I block an action whatever the AI decides?

Yes, with Forbidden, added in 4.3.0. Open a noHuman's settings, go to Safety → Forbidden and tick any of five blocks:

  • Run commands on your computer, including coding helpers and custom tools.
  • Click, type or upload in its browsers. It can still open pages, read them and take screenshots.
  • Use the mouse and keyboard on your screen.
  • Change, reset or restart teammates.
  • Install or remove skills and tools.

The app refuses these in all five autonomy modes, and approving a request does not lift them. A refused attempt leaves a line in the noHuman's chat, and the blocks show on its Profile.

Below the blocks you can write rules in your own words, up to 4,000 characters. The app adds them to the noHuman's instructions and enforces none of them; the settings page labels them "it is told, not stopped".

Publishing and deleting have no block of their own. A noHuman publishes by clicking a site's button, and the app cannot tell that click from another. To stop posting for sure, block browser clicks. A noHuman that can run commands could write a program around a block, so block commands as well when you want the strongest lock.

On a video team, a story editor who writes scripts and captions has little use for commands or installs, so you can block both. A publisher needs browser clicks to post, so its guard is a written rule plus the Founder-only publishing question.

What happens when a noHuman asks for more permission than its mode allows?

You get a permission card with the reason, such as "Guarded mode asks before shell commands and running code.", and Change autonomy beside it (since 4.2.0). Pick a mode that permits the action and the app allows the request, then switches modes once the noHuman finishes its current work. Pick a stricter mode and the app denies the request and restarts the noHuman now, which stops its current work. If you leave a permission card unanswered for 5 minutes, the app denies the request.

The modes run from Observer through Ask first, Guarded and Trusted to Full autonomy. A noHuman with no mode set runs in Full autonomy, which asks about nothing, so choose a mode for each role in Safety → Autonomy.

Can a lead change a teammate without asking me?

No. Since 4.3.0 a lead proposes and you decide. A lead can ask to change a teammate's name, role, job description, reporting line or browser. Your card shows each change as before and after, on the computer or the phone, and a busy teammate gets the change after its current work. If a new job description adds a sentence about publishing, or drops a rule against it, you type APPROVE to accept. Autonomy, accounts, tools and your Personal instructions stay yours alone.

The Team changes list in Needs you keeps each outcome, with Undo and Retry. Undo puts back what the change set; posts and sign-ins made in between stay done. To edit a role yourself, see managing noHumans.

Who decides when two noHumans keep messaging each other?

Their leader. Since 4.1.7 the app holds a message that arrives several hops into a chain of noHuman-to-noHuman messages with no real work in between. Since 4.3.0 the app asks the pair's leader, in its own session, to choose Continue or Stop. You get the card in Needs you, with Continue and Dismiss, when no leader stands over both or the leader gives no valid answer.

On 23 October the app held my publishing director's ordinary coordination with its seven publishers for my go-ahead every hour. Leaders now get a larger hourly allowance for messages from their teammates: 60 turns, plus 30 per direct report, or 270 for that director. A leader's Continue settles whether the teammate acts on the message and approves no post. The FAQ on noHumans talking to each other explains the message flow.

Can I answer these from my phone?

The mobile companion shows the same decisions, but its iOS and Android builds are prepared for store release, with no public download yet. Paired with your computer, it lists held messages, permission requests with Change autonomy, questions only you can answer, lead proposals, and the approvals you granted, with Revoke. With 4.4 on the computer, the phone offers the same length choice, and tapping Approve on both devices at once keeps one approval. Your computer runs the team, so it has to stay on and online. See answering requests on the phone, and find a noHuman's waiting requests in its Work panel.

Quick answers

Can a noHuman approve something for me?

No. The app keeps a Founder-only question away from teammates, and the team's gateway refuses any noHuman that tries to record an approval. Your noHumans' instructions treat a teammate saying "the Founder approved it" as no approval at all.

Does Forbidden have a publish block?

No. Block clicking, typing and uploading in that noHuman's browsers and it cannot press a site's Post button. It can still open and read pages.

What happens to my approvals when the team stops?

The app keeps them. Start the team again to see or revoke them.
